The city is endlessly rich in historic memorial sites. These have been largely renovated and restored. There are numerous villas and mansions in the city that contributed to the special beauty of Balatonfüred and made the city famous even in the most remote
places.
The following buildings of great architectural value and were built in the eighteenth century, having yet another definitive role in the atmosphere of the city: "Nagyvendéglő", the National Heart Hospital, the Kossuth Lajos spring, the Pálóczi Horváth Ádám
castle, the castle Széchenyi Ferenc.
Balatonfüred really began to develop in the 18th century and became a favorite meeting place for politicians and progressive artists.
In 1831, Sándor Kisfaludy opened the first Transdanubian theater here, which was the home of the Hungarian language at a time when the official language of Hungary was German. It was made possible by donations and the help of Tihany Abbey. The historical atmosphere,
from the era of reform in the southern part of the city is further enriched by the Blaha Lujza villa, built in the classical style, in which the famous actress and singer spent her summers for 23 years. The building today functions as a hotel and restaurant.
István Huray, the renowned doctor who works in the spa, also had a few houses here, although the villa D villary is said to be the most beautiful villa in Balatonfüred, worth visiting. There is a circle-shaped building covered with a dome, with Ionian columns
at the corner of Jókai and Blaha Lujza streets. The "Kerek Temple" designed by Fruhmann Antal based on the Pantheon building in Rome was built between 1841 and 1846. The Jókai villa was built in 1870 in an early eclectic style.
The three churches in Balatonfüred rise in the upper part of the city as if to protect the peace: they are "Református templom" (Reformed Church), "Katolikus templom" (Catholic Church) and the newly built "Evangélikus templom" (Evangelical Church).
The old part of the city that was a village has many old houses that belong to the national heritage. Balatonarács was an independent village, but in 1954 it became part of Balatonfüred, and there are many beautiful old buildings here. On the two sides of the
main street that leads to the old village, there are old buildings with one floor and two floors built in a row. In the old village or old town, as it is called today, the following buildings retain ancient folk traditions as shown on their memorial tablets.
Siske Street leads into a forest and continues on a path, which offers a wonderful place to hike around Balatonfüred."Gombás-kúria" (Gombás Mansion), built in the second part of the 18th century, is one of the most famous buildings in Balatonfüred. Those members
of the lower nobility built cellar houses like these around Lake Balaton, which admired the beauty and were endowed with a sense of style.
